Georgia Cell Phone Law Linked to Reduced Distracted Driving
Georgia implemented a new law in July of 2018 to prohibit Georgia motorists from texting and using mobile apps while driving. A recent study analyzed the behavior of more than 21,000 Georgia drivers for three months before the law went into effect and for four months after. Prior to the law going into effect, participants used their phones behind the wheel more than 19% of the time. In other words, for every hour behind the wheel, motorists spend nearly 12 minutes on their phones. Just four months after the law was in place, phone use behind the wheel was reduced to approximately 15% of total drive time.
