US 24 Curve Correction in Teller County

About the Project:

This highway safety improvement project consists of realigning a curve on US Highway 24, three miles east of the Town of Florissant in Teller County.

Work includes cutting back 1500 feet of rock slope along the northern edge of this two-lane highway, then regrading and paving.

Safety improvements include shoulder widening, correcting superelevation and improving stopping sight distance.

Work includes rock blasting, guardrail replacement, shoulder widening, earthwork, asphalt paving, and signing and striping.

Project Benefits

This project is designed to provide the following benefits:

• Improve visibility by correcting stopping sight distance around the curve
• Add capacity by widening shoulder areas
• Enhance safety by installing signs and repaving the highway

Work Schedule:

• The project began on May 1 with a duration of 75 calendar days, not including weather delay
• Completion is anticipated by late September
• Project hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 7 a.m. to noon on Friday.

Traffic Impacts:

Motorists can expect the following impacts during the period of construction:

• Daytime lane closures will exist for the duration of the project, with flaggers present to manage alternating traffic flows.
• Motorists can expect delays up to 15 minutes during lane closures.
• Up to five (5) full daytime closures of US 24 within the work zone will be utilized.
• A 40 mph speed limit is in place through the work zone and enforced 24/7 until project completion
• During these full closures, advanced warning signs and message boards will direct motorists to available detour routes (see highlighted routes in green on map).
• Local access will be maintained.
