About the Project:

The Colorado Department of Transportation in collaboration with prime contractor Brannan Sand and Gravel, will be working on a resurfacing project on Interstate 70 starting at the end of May. The project stretches across a four and a half mile zone of I 70 from Wadsworth Blvd to Pecos St in both Jefferson and Denver Counties. Crews will be using a mill and overlay process to resurface the roadway, working  from west to east. To lessen impact to travelers, work will primarily take place at night from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. Travelers can expect single and double lane closures throughout the duration of the project, which is anticipated to be complete by the end of October, 2022.

Work Schedule

  • Work will take place during nighttime hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning.

Traffic Impacts

  • Single and double lane closures, alternating traffic intermittently in either direction, are expected regularly throughout the duration of the project. These lane reductions may slow traffic, but are not anticipated to cause major delays. Motorists are encouraged to allow for extra travel time when driving through the project work zone.
  • Motorists are encouraged to allow for extra travel time when driving through the project work zone. Due to the milling and overlay process taking place at night, please use extreme caution driving on grooved pavement, especially motorcyclists. Please drive slowly and watch out for workers present on the job site.
  • For the majority of the project, single lane closures will begin at 7 p.m. and increase to double lane closures between 9 and 10 p.m. These double lane closures will last until 4 a.m.

Other Projects in the Area

There are other road construction operations occurring along the I-70 corridor for this week, including a sign structure replacement project.
