I-70 Auxiliary Lanes Summit County

About the Project:
On the I-70 Auxiliary Lane Project from Frisco to Silverthorne (MP 202 to MP 207). Also at the interchange of I-70 and US 6 and CO 9. Work is expected to go through September of 2023, weather permitting.
Type of Work:
- Widening the road in the construction zone
- Repaving eastbound lanes in the construction zone and restriping
- Widening of bridges over US 6 and the Blue River; upgrades to drainage
- Deer fencing in both directions of I-70 (MP 203 to 205)
- Improved truck parking at the EB scenic overlook
- Longer deceleration lane and improved signage at the exit 205 off-ramp
Work Schedule & Traffic Impacts
- Hours of daytime work will be from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (minimal impacts after noon on Fridays). Nighttime work will be from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Sunday through Saturday.
- Motorists should anticipate up to 20-minutes of additional travel time throughout the project work zone.
- Two eastbound I-70 lanes will remain open through the entirety of the project.
- Concrete barriers will shift traffic into temporary lanes. Traffic patterns will change based on work.
- Speeds will be reduced to 55 mph in the work zone.
- Width restrictions on I-70 will be reduced to 11 feet; US 6 and CO 9 may be reduced to 10 feet.
- Motorists should anticipate shorter lanes when turning from US 6/CO 9 (Blue River Parkway) from the I-70 on-ramps at exit 205 (Silverthorne).
- Pedestrian facilities will detour around active work areas but will remain open.
- The overlook east of the exit 203 (Frisco) on-ramp will be closed during construction.
