I-25 Ramp Metering in Southeast Colorado

About the Project:

A planned winter shut down is now in place for the project I-25 Ramp Metering project in Colorado Springs.

During the 2022 project season, the northbound and southbound Academy Blvd. on-ramps were nearly completed. The ramps were widened, and ramp metering devices will be installed in Spring 2023 to make the road safer by improving traffic flow and pacing vehicle release for merging traffic. The devices will also provide automated detection and will be triggered by I-25 traffic volume and spacing. Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) technologies have also been installed which includes video cameras, vehicle detection and real time traffic monitoring.

Project Schedule for 2023

  • Work will resume at the Woodmen Rd. and N. Gate Blvd. on-ramps approximately May 1 and is expected to be completed by August 31, 2023.
  • Remaining work on the Academy Blvd. ramps will be completed in approximately May.
  • The schedule will be Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. with occasional Saturday and nighttime work
  • There will be minimal traffic impacts during the winter shutdown
  • Travelers are urged to “know before you go.” Gather information about weather forecasts and anticipated travel impacts and current road conditions prior to hitting the road. CDOT resources include:
