CO 109 Bridge over US 50, BNSF Railroad

About the Project:

The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin the bridge project on CO 109. The contractor chosen for this project is Structures, Inc. This project consists of work on structure M-22-AY.  This is a 1,448 ft long bridge, constructed in 1967, and it carries CO 109 over US 50, BNSF Railroad, and the Arkansas River. The work includes removing existing asphalt surfacing, class 2 and 3 deck repairs, patching concrete piers, bearing repair corbels, fiber-reinforced polymer wrap, waterproofing membrane, asphalt surfacing, and a mill and overlay on the roadway approaches.

  • The improvements are designed to give motorists safer travel during inclement weather and prevent future erosion to the bridge structure. 
  • The resurfacing of the asphalt will create smoother pavement and improved driving conditions.

Work Schedule:

  • Construction will begin February 27, 2023
  • The project will be in operation Monday thru Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Project is anticipated to end in February of 2024

Traffic Impacts:

  • Vehicles will be reduced to intermittent one-lane traffic that will be controlled by a temporary traffic signal in place 24/7 at CO 109 intersection
  • Expect intermittent flagging during construction
